National convention of Shetkari Sanghatana in Nov 2013
THE 12th National Convention of Shelkari Sanghatana and Shetkari Manila Aghadi has been organised at Chanda Club ground here from November 8 to 10, informed Wamanrao Chatap, former MLA from Rajura constituency, in a press conference held at Circuit House here recently.
Interacting with media persons. Chatap informed mat over 5.000 delegates and over 50,000 farmers from various slates from across the country are likely to attend national convention that would be inaugurated at the hands of Sharad Joshi. former MP and founder of Shetkari Sanghatana and Swatamra Bhurai Paksha..
He further claimed that convention would be addressed by Ved Prakash Vaidik. former president. PTI. Jay Prakash Narayan. MLA (Loksatta Party), Sardar Bhupendra Singh Mann, former MP and President of All India Kisan Coordination Committee. Dr Manvendra Kochale. former National President of Swatanira Bharat Paksha (SBP). Adv Dinesh Sharma. President of Youth wing of SBP and other renowned personalities. Representatives from as many as 14 states including, Punjab, Haryana. Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat. Rajasthan. Madhya Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh and other states would be attending the convention. Chatap informed.
"Our country is under economic crisis due to wrong policies adopted by Union Government and farmers in the country are the worst affected.
Various issues would be taken up for debate during the three-day long convention including the food security bill, land ceiling act. waiver of loan and power bills for farmers. issues pertaining to women and their security. freedom for marketing farm products to farmers, unemployment problem, advantages of creation of smaller states and Vidarbha and last hut not the least. Shetkari Sanghatana's manifesto for forthcoming Lok Sabha elections," stressed Chatap.
Further, he purported that the Union Government has adopted liberalised policies for other fields like industries, trade and commerce but not for farmers or agricultural produce in our country.
As a result of wrong or anti-farmer policies, over 3 lakh farmers including over 34.000 from Vidarbha have committed suicide in the past 11 years, he alleged.
"As per the statistics, 40 per cent of the farmers have migrated to cities in absence of livelihood as farming has become a loss making activity with no way out from the ever-increasing financial burden and economic hardships. If the situation continues the country that is already in economic crisis would plunge deep into debts and might have to mortgage or sell out the gold reserve for revival," Chairman for Welcome Committee for the convention. Chatap suggested.
